Peace Comrades,
Quite often, we get the question from folks about “whats the meaning of coup d’etat Brooklyn?” and/or “Why did y’all choose coup d’etat?” Well, it is our way of merging things we love into a lifestyle: Fashion, Art, and Activism. We feel that in all three areas there can be some form of an aggressive change that will inspire others to think, act, or create – which are all essential for our personal and collective evolution.
There is no secret that the members of coup d’etat Brooklyn are social activists. We seek and aspire for a change which would result in more equality and harmony on the planet. However, we realize it will be a beautiful struggle getting there. While most seek simply to make money as their incentive, our endeavors are clear: we aim to ” Teach The Babies” and “Live To Change Something.” Since we are merging our life philosophy with business, we understand that economy is a reward for our efforts; its not the goal!
With that said, we pay homage to those individuals who put their lives and reputations on the line for one common purpose…Change! Recently, CDTBK‘s longtime friend and affiliate, Sam Wilson collaborated on a concept design that we felt was very impactful – CDT Freedom Fighters. Daoud, Sam and I sat down and thought of every person we could recall, that represented and inspired our ideals. These icons of the past and present are the inspiration behind the brand, as we only hope to become that same inspiration for the future.
CDT Freedom Fighters:
Dr. Joy Leary
Muhammad AliI’m aware that we are missing some people here, but we had to remain disciplined. Feel free to add on to the list.. As for the unfamiliar names on the list, if you don’t know who they are, do some research. It is our endeavor to shine some light on individuals who history books often times over look.

This Sunday, we had the continuation of the Afropunk X Coup d’etat Mural on Emerson & Myrtle. This week Alexandra Cespedes, Jen One & Livingroom Johnston joined Rimx & Seeone in painting the Mural. See you next weekend at the same place and same time…
Peace Family,
Check out the mural created last week by Rimx & Seeone for the Brooklyn Urban Arts Market. Part 2 of the mural will continue tomorrow, Sunday, September 13th on Myrtle and Emerson (in front of the Pratt Store.)
The Urban Arts Market is brought to you by Myrtle Avenue Association (M.A.R.P.) & Afropunk, who called me to come in and organize/curate this mural. This is one of more to come as part of the CDTBK’s “Brooklyn Mural Project.” Stay In Tuned.
Peace Family,
This is somewhat of a shameless plug, but most importantly, I would also like to show love to our people over at “Friends We Love.” FWL is an on going interview/documentary series that give artists and movers-and-shakers an opportunity to build on any subject they desire – created by film makers Moni Pineda and Michael Vargas.
A few months ago Mike and Moni of FWL hit me up to stop by the studio and run my mouth for 120 seconds. Needless to say, I stopped by and I had no idea what I was going to talk about. However, I did realize it was chance for me to share my thoughts to the world, so I took advantage of the opportunity. Check it out, let me know what you think. Also, leave comments on the FriendsWeLove website. Continue to support creative people doing creative things.

Peace and enjoy!
This weekend the Coup rallied up to go check out Big Daddy Kane & Blitz The Ambassador in Prospect Park. Blitz and DJ Ralph McDaniels ripped it and warmed up the stage enough for Kane to show he still got his swag in full effect. After the show we ran into our homie Dallas Penn of Internets Celebrities. Check it out!
Check out Blitz The Ambassor’s Album “Stereotype” available now online.
The title of this post is not to be confused with sister Sallome Hralima & Jamel Shabbazz’s photo-documentary event last year, June 8th, 2008 (see: AGreatDayInBroolyn.org). I am referring to NYC experiencing Summertime in April. For those of you who may not know- there is no place like Brooklyn in the Summer. We were able to capture some of our outtings to share with YOU (our blog followers), which included hanging out with the Fam – CDTBK/Sunshowah, Renae of InHerShoesBlog, & Alice Smith; A roof-top BBQ; Hard Hitting Harry & The Earthman Experience performing at the Earth Day Festival; and more!

Enjoy the beautiful sites of Brooklyn!
- Peace
Though the current state of things are extremely unjust, horrible and inhumane, as long as we continue to think of the world as Israelis & Palestinians, Christians & Muslims, Blacks & Whites, Niggas & Bitches, Men & Women, Adults & Children and continue to separate our awareness of one another and our sameness, then these terrible acts of “humanity” will continue. They will continue to be perpetuated by us. The reason I posted this video is because I think its important to hear a Rabbi speak of civility, equality and community- with all people (during a time like this.) When so many people are angry and want to be angry with Jews, believe we need to re-focus our frustration and desire for change, on the systems and individuals who inflict this injustice. It’s time for healing, it’s time for solutions and time to acknowledge that we all live on earth together. One Universal Family. “Peace” to me means the absence of confusion. PEACE!
Peace comrades,
Last week the Daily News reached out to CDTBK to do an article about our “guerilla marketing” strategies using social networking sites. Peep the full article below and see what we had to say:
