Journey To The East Day 6 (Sinai Egypt)

Sinai is amazing,  Ras Sinai  where we stayed is a beautiful place, the living accommodations are thatched huts and cabanas, inside the floor and walls are lined with woven locally made rugs (Ihad to get one for myself), the combination of brown and the bright colors of the rugs is perfect.

the highlight of the day was snorkeling over the coral reef. The reef begins as soon as you step off the shore and extends about 100 feet at about 3 feet deep. Its filled with an array of different sea life, schools of fish, strange water creatures that inhabit the reef below, fish of various shapes sizes and colors. After about 100 feet off shore the reef ends and theres a sudden drop off, all you see is blue water, the sea floor is no longer visible, because it happens so abruptly its slightly frightening, once you take a moment to adjust its a beautifully humbling & overwhelming experience..

after snorkeling we hung out on the beach, a small group of local Bedouin girls approached us with items for sale, its interesting to experience children doing business, having sales skill and  hageling prices, thay had some cool stuff..

the rest of the day was spent chilling by the beach, and taking in the experience, I particularly enjoyed a sea side hammock… more to come

peace

Meet The Panelists

Yesterday was the 4th annual Daily News’ Small Biz: Big Impact Conference held at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center on CUNY’s Borough of Manhattan Community College. The panel was lead by moderator Scott Wenger, who did an outstanding job (see more from Scott at www.nydailynews/money.)

This was an amazing experience for me and definitely the biggest crowd I’ve talked in front of  (not including my NBC interview for the Inspired by Spike Lee exhibit.) I was part of the 2nd panel titled Making the Most of Technology, which included the following panelist:

Raymon Ray – Founder/Editor of SmallBizTechnology.com and technology specialist. He co-produces the Annual Small Business Summit, produces the Taste of Technology Small Business Series and is a speaker. Ramon has written thousands of technology articles and news items for Smallbiztechnology.com and other media including: Inc. Magazine, New York Enterprise Report, Black Enterprise Magazine, CNet, Var Business, TechTarget, Entrepreneur.com, Small Business Resources and others. He has also written for technology vendors including Microsoft, FileMaker, and Everest.

Nelly Yusupova – is a web technology specialist, consultant and strategist, and motivating and inspiring speaker. She is the CTO of Webgrrls International, has a consultant website called DigitalWoman.com and has been at the forefront of the women’s movement online since 1999. Check her out!

Ben Kaufman – 23 year old wiz-kid/inventor who created Mophie (a product I use for my Iphone,) Kluster.com, and Quirky.com. Needless to say this brother is a genius. We shared the same sentiments on how to brand, market and produce your product. The bottom-line is to just go Do-it!

And of course myself – Rasu Jilani. I was honored to be asked to be part of this panel, and equally appreciative to have shared the stage with these exceptional creators. If you missed the conference, you missed out on learning a lot about the intricacies of being a successful entrepreneur – because other than speaking on a panel, my notebook was filled up with notes of tips from fellow business men & women.

Tuning in to 2010

With this being my first post for the year 2010, I’d like to extend a Happy New Year to all of our family, friends and supporters. We are blessed to have been going strong for 5 years and we have you all to thank for that. Your support is greatly appreciated.

2010 is about setting our frequencies higher… as we get closer to 2012. The rest of the world believes the world is coming to the end. I subscribe to the idea that the AM channel will be shut off. So anyone is still tuning in to AM channel, it will seem as if their world has come to an end (metaphorically speaking!) Its time for us to step our game up as the most intelligent species of the planet earth and endeavor to be more progressive and prosperous. I explain my thoughts on this topic a bit deeper in my video-blog below.

You’re questions and comments are welcomed. Peace.

CDT Teaching The Babies How To Paint

cdt-bk-078

This weekend,

CDTBK hosted a children art workshop at Restoration Plaza. The goal was to expose the kids to the artwork that was being displayed in the gallery from the “Live To Change Something Through Art” exhibit, and giving them the opportunity to create some artwork of their own.

The format of the workshop was  simple – paint to the music! CDT Affiliate Melly-Mel  and Daoud spearheaded the workshop by instructing the kids how to participate. The workshop lasted 2 1/2 hours. When it was all said and done, we had a gallery of about 60 paintings by kids ranging for the ages 3 – 10.

This was a beautiful day with beautiful children. A special thanks and shout out to: Dahkil Hausif, Melly Mel, Tamara Orozco (photographer), Helena Moke, Danny Davis & T Cleo Austin for volunteering their time and efforts, this weekend.

Live To Change Something Through Art – Recap

November 21st, 2009,

Marked the second annual Coup d’etat Artshow. This year’s exhibit took place at the Skylight Gallery located at Restoration Plaza in Bedstuy, Brooklyn NY. The theme of the artshow was “Live To Change Something Through Art.”

The Show comprised of 28 total artists who all have one thing in common – they use their art to express their ideas of progressive change (socially, politically and personal.) The artwork crossed different mediums of art; from photography, fine art to street art and sculptures.

We are blessed and grateful that there were a bit over 450 attendees to the artshow, which have all expressed their appreciation for us bringing this type of art event to the community. We are equally proud that the community came out and showed interest their talented peers and community members. This goes to show that it is very possible to bring the arts to the ‘hood’. For the ‘hood’ has shown here that they appreciate creativity and artistic expression. Lets keep it going!

A Special Thanks to all the artists:

LIL Biggie Rockin’ CDTBK

Peace Family,

This Morning I get a email from the homie DJ KO (twitter.com/AlmightyDjko) telling me to check this video out from P.Diddy’s latest twitter blog (rightfully named P.Twitty.) In watching the video you will notice Christopher Wallace’s son (Biggie Jr.) is wearing the ORIGINAL CDTBK Love/Hate tee. We dropped this tee a few years ago (2006,) and is considered to be classic. Shout out to P.Twitty for the love.

Signing off. Stay In Tuned!

Welcome To The Wonderful World Of…

mia_bump1Buenos Dias, bilingual world! It’s been a long time coming. The CDTBK blog is finally here and guess what? We have the best information on the planet and we want to share it with non-other than you. Let me type that again: we don’t want them, but we want you! The truth of the matter is: this blog consists of a couple of deep brothas and A SISTA, who are down for plantains, Jazz and literature… but at the end of the day, we love culture, fashion and setting trends (also known as stylin’ on em’).

OK, well let me start over. If you didn’t know by now, “Easy does it.”
