ABOUT J*DAVEY
According to ?uestlove, super-producer and famed drummer of the Roots, “J*Davey is the swift kick in the ass I’ve been praying for Black Music to produce!” The LA-based group’s sound—an amalgamation of punk, new wave, soul and hip-hop—is hard to define, but their music and image are undeniable. J*Davey broke into public consciousness in 2007, after opening up a string of dates for Prince in Las Vegas, and have since released the Land of the Lost/Beauty of Distortion LP to much fanfare, and landed in major national media outlets like the New York Times, FADER, URB, and Okayplayer.com.

Inauguration Bus Trip Recap

January 20th marked a historic milestone for America. For those of you who’ve been asleep for the past year, it was the day of Barack Obama’s Inauguration. The day put a cap on a journey to America’s most prestigious position that defines one man’s determination, a nation’s progression, and for most people, a symbol of CHANGE!

coup d’etat Brooklyn helped organize a bus ride to DC in collaboration with Mary Pryor (We Fancy), Kristen Fraser (Cornerstone), Charles Anthony, & Al of the Minority Report.  If you missed it, you SLEPT… nuff said!

The weekend before the trip I caught an unfortunate case of food poisoning. As you can imagine, I had my mind made up to stay at home and experience the inauguration vicariously through my television. Monday morning I checked myself into Brooklyn Hospital, concerned that my situation may have worsened. Needless to say, I spent majority of my day in the waiting room reading Alan Moore’s graphic novel The Watchmen.

12 hours, 8 cups of tea and 2 antibiotic pills later I schlepped my sick ass to Santos to assist the organizing cast in giving out gift bags, donuts and coffee to all the voyagers. We were loaded up on the buses by 12:30 and ready to depart without any hitches. At this moment I thought to myself: “Will I let a little tummy ache prevent me from witnessing history?” HELL NO. I was on that bus on my way down to DC to see MY PRESIDENT get sworn in!
