Through my observations over the years, I’ve come to realize that many of us spend too much time scrutinizing, judging and concerning ourselves with the actions of others. All too often we spend a lot of energy in social situations focusing on what the next man or woman is wearing, doing, or saying. We seem to be infatuated with pointing out the shortcomings of others in this society. We all do it to some degree, if not, Reality Shows would have never become so popular. So I ask the question: what’s the reason for the “hate”? Why do some people get so much satisfaction from seeing the shortcomings in others?
In my opinion, it has to do with a lack of self love in our society. People base there self worth in too many things outside of themselves. Unhealthy examples of materialism, external validation, archetypes of style, beauty and social behavior are consistently perpetuated to the masses. As a result, we value the superficial more than the individual. Because of this, many of us have a constant growing resentment of ourselves and towards others that stems from some form of dissatisfaction. We resent ourselves because we value things outside of ourselves more than we do the self; and in attempts to increase our self value we feel the need to devalue or take away from those around us. I will admit, I am a sucka for a good trailer. Especially when that trailer is for an interesting independent film (or a kick-ass action film). Check out the preview for the movie “Medicine for Melancholy.”
Medicine for Melancholy is a love story of bikes and one-night stands told through two African-American twenty-somethings dealing with issues of class, identity, and the evolving conundrum of being a minority in rapidly gentrifying San Francisco-a city with the smallest proportional black population of any other major American city
Looks different, but very creative. I’ll be sure to let you know how it is once I’ve checked it out.
Here is the official trailer of coup d’etat affiliate Brian “Deka” Paupaw‘s new film“Hoods to Woods“.
“Hoods to Woods” is a documentary based on the story of Brian “Deka” Paupaw and his journeys from the inner city streets of Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn to the deep powder back-country mountains in North and South America. Through Brian’s self told story, we experience how the culture of snowboarding transformed a life, once stifled by the social constraints of the streets, into one which is only bounded by the edge of a mountain.
