Urban Males And Homophobia… An Understanding

I took sometime a while back to understand my past opinions on homosexuality & homophobia. I realized some things, I realized that i did have a homophobia, and it stemmed from my youth.. I realized that homosexuality was used as a “boogyman” an anti-jail scare tactic, at a certain age at about eleven or twelve years old I was being told, “hey you better behave” and “you could go to jail for that” and “your handsome if you go to jail they gonna rape you,” or ” they’ll make you into a girl and have you walking around in a dress.”  These types of threats, this reality has a deep psychological affect on young black men, because the reality of ending up in jail is extremely common and possible,  it’s like a sword of doom that hangs over our heads in our youth. I realized that at an early age, we face the reality that we may go to jail, and in jail we will have to defend our manhood, “homosexuals” (at least what we ignorantly understand homosexuals to be) become the enemy.  This is an aspect, a root of urban male homophobia that is rarely discussed, and I deeply feel is a reason why there is a misguided animosity toward homosexuality.  Its a systematic problem, that runs deep, its not just a simple biased or blind hate or fear, it has multiple social, cultural and systematic layers….  Growing up I personally knew a few people who went to jail and were victims of sexual assaults in prison and at young ages, they were never the same, to me and my friends this was real, a vivid reality, it could happen, it did happen to people. For many black & latino, “minority” and “lower class” young men homosexuality isn’t a life choice, they equate it w/ being punked, w/ loss of what they feel is their only power in this country, their manhood. For this to change we need to become proactive, We need to realize the layered complexity of our social disfunction, so we can begin peeling them away.. it takes courage, it takes unity, compassion, empathy and understanding, it can be done…

I Truly Love Women…

I truly love women, when I was younger my love for women was a great source of conflict & fear, rooted in my sense of duty to protect from the worlds evils.  As a boy my father would travel for work, he’d say protect your mother & sisters, my spirt was prepared for the task yet my body was inadequate for the job, I began to resent my mom, sisters, cousins for being the root of situations in which I felt were set up so that I would unavoidably fail, what can a young boy do about cat callers. The social dysfunction of our society inspires negative emotions for young men regarding women, due to the reality that often women become the vehicle that expose our inadequacies. Many men who grow up in hostile environments develop a distrust for women, women in many ways begin to represent danger.

As I grew and developed into my  manhood I realized that all fear is indeed our own creation & that fear can overshadow the ability to share love freely. As men we need to understand this social issue & heal ourselves, redirect our frustrations, removing the blame from the women in our life.

I believe that many mens inability to see the true root of their issues is the reason why men run from responsibility of family, they feel its a loosing battle & arent emotionally equipped  or healthy enough to navigate the task. Men, we need to revaluate our feelings, look to the source & recognize our obstacles, reclaim our strength , we ned to heal and cultivate our natural ability, once we embrace our birthright we can again embrace our families.

Revive Family, Honor And Respect

PEACE.. many of us have not been taught how to be men, warriors, protectors.. too often we men irresponsibly allow our women to be in the path of danger, and women irresponsibly attract danger to us men. Its sad disappoints and at times disgusts me.. we all need to become better, and begin by sharing and teaching what we know to those who don’t.. revive family, honor and respect (29)

The State Of The Body Is A Reflection Of Heart & Mind…

The state of the body is a reflection of our heart & mind. The physical attributes and experience of the body are direct effect of our cause, what we physically feel and externally see has much to do with our mental attitude, if we look at our physical state as an indicator of our thought and mind, and not just simply a physical condition we can gain great insight of self and keys to understanding our inner and subconscious dialog with ourself and the world.

for example:

an overweight body = gluttony or laziness in some aspects. complacency, a fear or neglect to take action.

Sickly body = a mental dis-ease. a person who is harboring harmful thought, holding onto pain , grudges, despair, loss.

A healthy body = wellness in thought, & healthy heart. A strong sense of self love, happiness, content with being, harmonious with the world.

ailments can be used to better understand self.

sore throat = a symptom of an individual who feels they are not expressing themselves, or that may be misusing their voice.

head aches = an indicator that we are being too heady, stress,

stomach pain = apprehension, anxiety, an intuitive warning to be aware

this may sound obvious to some, yet many simply focus on the effect and rarely take time to understand that they are often the root of the cause.

We are given many signs that can guide us to understand our living truth, we simply need to choose to pay attention and be aware.

The design of our temple represents what and how it’s occupant worships.

An Open Mind Supports An Open Heart…

very few have the courage to question, to step outside of them selves and see through the perspective of the “other” until the celebrated oppression and imperialism of these “super powers” discontinue i will always question who they suggest is my enemy. Geronimo was a “terrorist” the black panther party, Garvey, and countless others would be labeled as “terrorists” .I may not always agree with the way, often i can empathize with the cause or the need. an open mind supports an open heart and cultivates a just spirit.

I AM

Our knowledge of self based on the physical experience in many ways is an illusion. to have greater understanding we must come to know I AM. I Am is the constant that is us, it is who we are minus our life experience, the essence of that which we call self. When we have a strong understanding of I AM, we come to know others w/ similar clarity, we enable the ability to see I AM in them. We see others as we see our self, positive or negative. We behold all as we know our self. I AM in me sees I AM in you.

Embrace & Honor The Divine With In

Until we embrace & honor the divine with in, focus on the divine without, is a mysterious distraction. We first prepare self before leaving the house, the same principal applies to pursuit of higher knowledge. To cultivate a healthy knowledge of self, we must embrace honest, humble, objective, observation & respect of self. When we begin to know self our understanding of all begins to expand. as within so without, as above so below.

“Don’t Let It Go To YOUr Head…”

Peace. Paz. Salaam. We greet the entire world with peace as instructed. I hope these words find you in a good place…

The following post was inspired by a collaboration of several things: including career transitioning, bottled thoughts, life post “it” and reading a random, but not so random blog post. Oh yeah, and the fact that BEYOND me, the people around me are changing (as expected). What isn’t so expected, is the fact that they have let their recent “successes” fog their minds, bodies and souls – and I mean, straight “Chucky”, “Child’s Play” style.
