Volunteers needed for “Cypress Hills Verde Tree Giveaway”

The Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation and Pratt Center are hosting one-day tree giveaway and block party. They are looking for general volunteers to assist in both tree giveaways and passing out surveys to the attending community

Date: Saturday, June 4th, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Number of Volunteers Needed:
As many as possible

About the survey:

• They would like to focus on surveying people who live in Cypress Hills/East New York and can include Brownsville. If they live in Queens we don’t want to survey them. On Saturday They’ll go over how to phrase this to people.
• They are hoping to survey folks while they wait in line to receive a free tree (nothing better than bored people!). They might also provide a spot where people walking by can sit down and take the survey.
• Please look over the survey and let me know if you need more explanation for any questions. They don’t expect you to walk each person though the whole survey but want to make sure you can answer any questions that might come up.

Logistics for the day:

Responsibility:

• Assist in handing out surveys to the community (Cypress Hill, East NY, Brownsville)
• Giveaway Trees to promote a greener community
• Assist in children art workshop – happening simultaneously
• Spanish translators needed for non-English speaking participants
• Event setup and organizing

Short Bio:
(born February 23, 1868, Great Barrington, Massachusetts, U.S.—died August 27, 1963, Accra, Ghana) American sociologist, the most important black protest leader in the United States during the first half of the 20th century. He was the co-founder of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) in 1909 and edited The Crisis, its magazine, from 1910 to 1934. Late in life he became identified with communist causes.

This is a touching cause, with an even more touching story behind it. Peep this video by the Falling Whistles organization. I hosted an event extravaganza this past Wednesday, to build awareness with the turmoil in the Congo.
