Online Social Behavior Of Our Youth

lol…. you can only control the FB behavior of your own.. and hope to influence the behavior of others.. We must have faith in our example and ability to teach because we are sincere and consistent.. when we were kids we had more privacy to hide our social behavior, Facebook, twitter, myspace, actually put it all out in the open. There are no mysteries. Parents can now check their child’s  caller id to see who they talk to and for how long, we can even give them GPS cell phones so we know where they are and set an alarm to go off if they are not in a pre-designated location at a particular time..

What went unseen and was left to detective work and speculation in our day is out in the open now. Lets equip ourself to answer the need for guidance… WE SEE YOU GUYS!!!teensonline

When we were younger we had the same type of “surveillance” it was called neighbors, the lady down the street, the bodega owner. Now the world extends past the block, the neighborhood, borough. Kids want to be adults-but it comes with strings attached to their parents hips. Parents can no longer pick up the phone receiver and see if their child is still on the phone-past their bed time, or read their diary to read about their daughter’s 9 grade crush. Today parents are forced to be more involved-but the neighborhood collective parenting has become “I don’t want to get in it! That’s their child!” Do I want to play I-spy with my (future) children? No-but I rather know what’s going on. Just like I want to know what my kid’s gifts and interests are so I can help them to flourish.

    Peace,

Parents have to be parents. Children should be allowed freedom but only up to a certain point. When I was a kid I could rarely leave my door closed. Moms would walk by and open that bad boy. You don’t pay rent you gotta give up some freedom jack. Being a parent means being tired unfortunately that’s the way it goes. It’s WORK!

Word. However it can also be a catch 22. We can monitor our youth properly with the intent of knowing whats “best” for them, but also prevent them for experiencing life to its fullest and make mistakes on their own, because of our meddling and surveillance.

On the flip-side it gives them to opportunity to think twice before doing things. Critical… See More thinking. Technology becomes the conscience. Its like would you cut school if your mom was watching you?..well guess what with twitter and facebook, she is now!

    Interesting subject indeed.

yeah its really interesting.. ultimately you would hope they would do the right thing because its right for them not out of fear of punishment.. this technological parenting, its almost like a new form of religion.. lol fear of the watchful eye… i just think if we wanna know what our kids are doing its there to know these days.. as elders we need be more sensitive instead os just condemning them create a dialog that will hopefully help them think about what they are encountered with socially.
